Overview
The Cultivate ACCESS program has evolved over time. Currently we have funding from USDA-NIFA to support two programs: Cultivate ACCESS to Data Science and Cultivate ACCESS Climate Resilience. Both programs use a mentoring model for high school students where they experience peer-peer interaction with college students. High school teachers can engage in co-hort activities to support their classroom teaching.
Cultivate ACCESS to Data Science in Agriculture uses an integrated systems thinking, virtual near-peer mentoring, and community influencing approach to empower youth with an expanded vision for data infused agricultural technologies as socially integrated tools for solving complex, ambiguous problems while encouraging
underrepresented student populations to consider agricultural and natural resources career paths.

Cultivate Resilience is working to fill this gap by working with teachers to design culturally responsive curriculum resources that focus on climate resilience and preparing students for the future workforce to foster an inclusive environment in STEM. By helping students develop critical thinking skills and personal agency, the program aims to empower the next generation to make informed decisions, build a climate-resilient future, and pursue STEM careers in agriculture.
